Preparing for and adapting to climate risks
Adapting to climate change requires a deep understanding of the risks it poses for ecosystems and its impacts on humans and production systems. Coordinating the diverse Research Infrastructures (RI) of different disciplines and sectors and improving the accessibility of information can help to address and prepare for these risks.
The Integrated Research Infrastructure Services for Climate Change Risks (IRISCC) aims to bridge the gap of diverse data by forming a consortium of leading RIs spanning natural and social sciences. IRISCC’s primary goal is to provide scientific and knowledge services to support cutting-edge research and evidence-based policymaking, ultimately enhancing Europe’s nations resilience to climate change.
IRISCC establishes a “one-stop-shop” for climate change risk-related RI services through a dedicated catalogue of services and access management system. This infrastructure will facilitate transnational access to diverse RI services, catering to various user communities. Through scientific publications and communication, IRISCC will progressively integrate services and transdisciplinary action, and service demonstrators for benchmarking. Furthermore, IRISCC will extend its services beyond the scientific community to policymakers and stakeholders, in collaboration with risk management platforms.
IRISCC fosters endeavors collaboration and synergy in addressing climate change challenges
The research facilitated by IRISCC contributes to vital climate change reports and informs policy and decision-making, aligning with climate adaptation strategies. Moreover, IRISCC prioritizes training the next generation of scientists in utilizing RI services efficiently and managing data effectively. Data generated by IRISCC will adhere to FAIR principles, promoting openness and accessibility, and will be linked to European initiatives. Lastly, IRISCC aims to establish strong connections with current and future endeavors under Horizon Europe, fostering collaboration and synergy in addressing climate change challenges.
