In 2024, the regions of South Savo, South Karelia, Kymenlaakso, and North Karelia in Eastern Finland hold the European Region of Gastronomy Saimaa status. This unique opportunity allows these regions to distinguish themselves as a culinary travel destination by making visible the sustainability and responsibility of their food production and systems, while also advancing this approach to food production.
Through the project, the Saimaa area’s food region identity will be strengthened as From Farm to Table food chain companies and other actors network across regional borders under the Taste Saimaa brand. New business opportunities will emerge for local farms and companies in the food and tourism sectors as part of the food tourism chain, enhancing the competitiveness and profitability of rural enterprises.
The From Farm to Table Made Visible project is implemented with three focus areas:
1. From Farm – Sustainable, regenerative primary production
2. To Table – Environmentally responsible food production, food tourism, landscape, and cultural heritage
3. Making Visible – Showcasing the *From Farm to Table* approach through multi-channel communications and food events
Target Group and Implementation Area
The project’s target group includes farms, and food, tourism, and restaurant businesses in the South Savo, South Karelia, Kymenlaakso, and North Karelia regions.
