ATRIA – EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND COLLABORATION PLAY A KEY ROLE IN THE FOOD COMPANY’S BALTIC SEA COMMITMENT
Baltic Sea Commitment, Corporate Donation, Carbon Action
Atria, one of Northern Europe’s leading food companies, is committed to developing sustainable food chains and livestock production.
Towards a more sustainable food chain
Atria’s Baltic Sea Commitment revolves around reducing the environmental impacts of livestock production, enhancing cooperation between livestock farms and crop farms, and introducing and promoting regenerative farming methods.
BSAG’s collaboration with Atria began in 2019 and includes a significant donation to BSAG’s Baltic Sea action.
Commitment revolves around research, collaboration and training
Atria is committed to reducing the environmental impacts of livestock production by optimising feeding, utilising food industry side streams, improving nutrient cycling, and using research data to develop production on farms.
Atria is enhancing cooperation between livestock farms and crop farms by, for instance, improving nutrient recycling and promoting crop rotation.
The food company promotes the introduction of cultivation methods that improve soil health and carbon sequestration by training its own experts and producers, and by sharing best practices and research results with them.
Food accounts for about 20 per cent of the carbon emissions from consumption. By enhancing the food chain as a whole, we can minimise its most significant environmental impacts. Collaboration with BSAG provides us with both the latest research data and support for reducing the environmental impact of arable farming and meat production.
