Sofia Seivo

Sofia works as a specialist in BSAG’s corporate relations team.

Sofia’s role involves ensuring smooth cooperation with BSAG’s existing corporate partners while seeking new collaborations for impactful Baltic Sea work.

For the past five years Sofia has focused on sustainability issues, particularly corporate environmental responsibility. She has explored sustainability from various perspectives in different organizations, collaborating with a wide range of partners. Sofia has assisted companies, for example, with greenhouse gas accounting, setting emission reduction targets, sourcing renewable electricity certificates, and offsetting unavoidable emissions. Through her work, Sofia has noticed that environmental work is more and more frequently integrated into corporate strategies and is usually not in conflict with the companies’ financial goals anymore.

Sofia holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences from the University of Helsinki and is pursuing a Master of Science in the International Master’s program of Environmental Change and Global Sustainability.

Sofia has lived most of her life on the Baltic Sea coast and spent time both at sea and hiking along the shores. She is committed to improving and restoring the Baltic Sea for its different inhabitants. As a scuba diver, she sees the urgent need for efforts to protect the Baltic Sea:

“When you can’t even see your own fins when diving in algae-filled water, it’s evident that work needs to be done to reduce eutrophication in the Baltic Sea. It is not just us recreational users who suffer from the degraded state of the sea, but also many of its inhabitants – such as predators that rely on their sight to hunt. There is still a lot to save in the Baltic Sea and a huge amount of precious life to protect. We have a responsibility to do everything we can to restore areas of the Baltic Sea to a more natural state, allowing its native species to recover and thrive.”
