Finnish Water and Waste Water Works Association (FIWA) promotes source control of Hazardous substances and litter. Source control is strengthened by producing information material which can be used and distributed. Information material is produced for individuals, service sector and industries. FIWA has about 300 water utility members around covering whole Finland. Information concerning produced material can be distributed effectively trough the network of water utilities. There will also be material available on the internet and via the web page of BSAG.
Objective of the commitment is to limit the amount of Hazardous substances and litter entering sewer network and finally the Baltic Sea. Hazardous substances and litter should be discharged appropriately to the hazardous waste collection system. Aim of the commitment is to decrease amount of Hazardous substances and litter accumulating to the Baltic Sea. Results to the environmental quality of the Baltic Sea will be permanent.
