Rotaries for the Baltic Sea

Description:

The Baltic sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world and saving it proceeds slowly. Rotaries want to join Finnish citizens in a common action for the Baltic sea.

By carrying out many individual actions, the total effect will be significant. People want to act in their own neighbourhood and see the results locally. That is why Rotaries want to concentrate on saving the Baltic Sea from the local point of view.

Commitment´s basic principles:

– Local Rotary clubs are responsible for concrete actions and all clubs are welcome to join the work
– In practise Rotary club are helping in implementing local Baltic Sea saving actions by offering help, recources and tools. If needed, BSAG can support clubs for example in finding relevant experts.
– Different actions can vary between different clubs and areas
– Rotaries co-operate with other local public and private organisations
– Activities concentrate on concrete actions, not bureaucracy. For example: Cleaning up shore lines, performing or supporting research projects, minimising negative effects of boating, etc..

Four pilot clubs start the operations: Lovisa-Loviisa, Porvoo, Espoo and Hangö-Hanko. They have organised Baltic Sea teams that start working on their first projects. The first projects are described in the milestone section. As the clubs work, they gather and share experiences in order to develop the whole Commitment onwards.
