DAVA FOODS — CHICKEN FEED AND MANURE AS SOLUTIONS 

The first egg company to join the Carbon Action corporate platform

DAVA Foods Finland’s Kultamuna eggs are always sourced from Finnish family farms, and the company is now encouraging these farms to transition to regenerative agriculture. Its goal is to improve soil health, store atmospheric carbon in the soil and strengthen biodiversity, while also improving the profitability and vitality of its contract farms.  

Training and partnership for producers 

The company’s egg producers are Finnish family farms that often grow their own feed, utilise their chicken manure as fertilizer, and largely use renewable energy sources for heating. DAVA Foods Finland trains its producers to grow fodder regeneratively, provides information on how to reduce emissions from energy consumption, and seeks new partnerships to further develop the circular economy for manure. 

Baltic Sea-friendly eggs for store shelves 

DAVA Foods Finland has long focused on cage-free egg production, and is now aiming to develop a Kultamuna product whose production chain has minimal impacts on the Baltic Sea and climate. Committed contract producers play an important role in the co-development of farm products and operations. 

DAVA Foods Finland has about 60 Finnish contract producers. The company is owned 50-50 by Munakunta (a Finnish egg producers’ cooperative) and DAVA Foods Holding A/S (an egg-industry group that operates in the Baltic region).  

The company’s collaboration with BSAG began in 2021 and includes a significant donation to the foundation’s Baltic Sea action.
