Involving customers in Baltic Sea conservation

As a countermove to Black Friday, which encourages shoppers to make impulse purchases, Artek developed Blue Friday in 2017 to support sustainable consumption instead.

Twenty per cent of the proceeds from regular-priced Artek and Vitra items sold at the Artek Helsinki store on Blue Friday are donated to BSAG. By shopping on Blue Friday, customers can participate in Baltic Sea conservation instead of celebrating consumption.

Artek’s Blue Friday has become an annual tradition since its conception in 2017, and celebrated five glorious years in 2021.

Blue Friday has become a tradition that advocates conscious consumption and sustainable development instead of the impulsive purchasing decisions that are encouraged by campaigns such as Black Friday. The Baltic Sea was selected as the beneficiary of our donations back in 2017, as it’s something that resonates with all Finns. By promoting Baltic Sea conservation in cooperation with our customers, we’re investing in the future of our country’s nature.
